Ernest Wilkins’ Spotify Playlist

Ernest Wilkins is All Plaidout

When he’s not busy producing digital content for Chicago’s daily paper The RedEye or tumbling or tweeting with abandon, apparently, Ernest Wilkins makes Spotify playlists inspired by his friends. Ernest told me he’d created a playlist riffing on my style, but there’s no way anyone could make a playlist as well as me.

No one, I say. Well, what a difference and hour makes. I was dead wrong.

From that first hour’s listen (and several hours since), It’s clear, musically-speaking anyways, Mr. Wilkins knows me better than I know myself. He knows me so well, in fact, that he was able to forage a playlist so earnestly (and Ernestly) “Max Wastler” I decree, for all of Eternia, this mix shall heretofore be known as “Ernestus Augustus.”

From his playlist I garnered the following about my own playlists:

My playlists:
1) start off sonically in one place and end somewhere else entirely.
2) include a few deep cuts from new artists that are just coming into prominence or likely never will.
3) include a few deep cuts from long-forgotten artists, whether or not its deserved.
4) never burn too hot, rock solid, and carry enough of a dance beat that they’re worth giving your partner a turn or two.
5) end with a bang.

Ernest was cool and kind enough to allow me to share this mix on All Plaidout. Double the cool? He’s included some of the tunes he’s most looking forward to getting on the good foot this weekend at Lollapalooza. Those artists include B.o.B., Chief Keef, Dum Dum Girls, and Gary Clark, Jr.

For those of you lucky enough to spend the weekend sweatin’ it out in Chicago’s Grant Park, let this act as your warm-up. And for those of you beating the heat this August, put these tracks to the test. Burn Cool, Burn Ernest. Mr. Wilkins, thank you, sir.
